Piccard-Denkmal

The Piccard Memorial, which was erected in 1989, reminds of the emergency landing of Professor Auguste Piccard at the Gurgler Ferner glacier on 27 May 1931. The news of his rescue was published in newspapers all over the world. A festschrift is available at the Obergurgl-Hochgurgl information office.

At the end of the valley, a new horizon for research, conferences and sports. The University Center Obergurgl is located at 1,940 m, five minutes from the town center, directly on the ski slope. The listed buildings have been carefully renovated, equipped with the latest technology and now accommodate conference rooms, the Alpine research center, laboratories, sports medicine, cozy lounges, a restaurant and 40 guest rooms. On the doorstep: one of the most beautiful biosphere parks in Europe and the Ötztal glacier world.

The parking spaces next to the gondola are open during summer. The big parking space on the opposite side of the road are only open during winter. No parking at night.Maximumg height: no height restrictions.Camping is not permitted in any of the car parks in the Ötztal.
