The trail starts in Vent at the top station of the Gampen tow lift, turning right. A steep ascent leads through a beautiful stone pine forest to Mutsbühl (2,340 m), where you can admire the rich flora. From Mutsbühl, you’ll enjoy a magnificent view of Wildspitze (3,768 m), Weißkugel (3,739 m), and Similaun (3,606 m).Walking time: 1 1/2 h to Mutsbühl, 3 h for the round trip.

Personal encounters among visionary alpinists paved the way for the founding of the German Alpine Club. Vent’s Widum, described by Johann Stüdl as “the coziest base for high-altitude tourists,” was at the heart of this development.Franz Senn—pastor and innkeeper, fearless mountaineer, and progressive advocate of the Alps—became the driving force behind this movement.Today, the new Widum in Vent serves as an information center for Ötztal Tourism and hosts an exhibition by the Ötztal Nature Park.
